Course under the auspices of ALSTOM Power Sp. z o.o.
Inter-faculty course is conducted jointly by two faculties of Gdańsk University of Technology:
- Faculty of Electrical and Conrol Engineering
- Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology
About the course
The studies last 7 terms. In the first five terms, students recruited by particular faculties have joint classe. After the fifth term, the students select specialties and, starting from the sixth term, students participate in classes and lectures carried out by the faculty conducting a specific specialty.
Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering conducts the following specialties:
- power markets and power production systems
- operations engineering in electrical power production
Possibilities of future employment
Specialty in operations in power production allows students to obtain skills connected with optimizing of power production and transfer system. Students will obtain knowledge on controlling power plants and power production systems. If you select this specialty, you will learn how to safely operate power generation devices and systems. You will also learn how to monitor and diagnose power producing equipment.
A specialist of operations engineering in electrical power production will be able to design the development of power production systems. Throughout his studies he will learn how to design power plant and combined heat and power plant. He will also learn how to conduct a technical and economic analysis of investments and modernization of plants, how to prepare energy certificates, reliability assessment and safety assessment of power plants.
Our graduates are employed by power plants, combined heat and power plants, electrical and power production departments of various industrial companies, companies introducing new, ecological power production technologies. The graduates are ready to start their own enterprises.
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology conducts the following specialties:
- automation of power production systems
- diagnostics and operation of power systems
- eco-friendly power production technologies
- fluid flow machines, under the auspices of Alstom Renewable Poland Sp. z o.o./Baker Hughes, a GE Company
Possibilities of future employment
A graduate specializing in diagnostics and operation of power systems will learn how to design systems to diagnose power machines and blocks. They will become familiar with the principles of operation and will learn how to supervise power production systems. They will learn about overhaul technologies and methodology of conducting overhaul processes in small, medium and large power plants. They will also learn about the administration of power systems.
A graduate specializing in eco-friendly power production technologies will learn everything that is necessary in designing local system of small power production, including the renewable energy surces, namely combined heat and power plants with combustion engines, small water and wing power, geotermal systems and biomass-based systems. Students will learn about the methods of supervising an enterprise in terms of the protection of environment and waste utilization. Students will know how to successfully supervise the desing of small power production, conducting overhaul companies and servicing local power plants.
Our graduates are employed by power plants, combined heat and power plants, electrical and power production departments of various industrial companies, companies introducing new, ecological power production technologies. The graduates are ready to start their own enterprises, operating particularly in small power plants using renewable sources of energy.
Graduates of automation of power production systems specialty will be able to control and operate power production devices, as well as design control and automation systems. If you select fluid flow machines specialty, you will learn to design power production devices and systems such as: turbines (heat, water and wind), power plants (conventional and non-conventional), heat exchangers, boilers, diagnostic systems, control and operation systems.
Studies at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology will give you knowledge on management of power economy as an external advisory body, representative of power production supervisory body or local government. Both specialties are guaranteed to equip you with a practical knowledge allowing the supervision of power plant and power production equipment overhauls. A diploma of our faculty means that you are familiar with the issues regarding maintenance engineering, diagnostics, safety and reliability of systems.
