FACILITY FOR TIRE/ROAD NOISE AND ROLLING RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT FOR CAR AND TRUCK TIRES „DRUM 2.0”
LOCATION: Building No 16 „Forge”, laboratory of DMVMT, (patrons: Associate Professor Grzegorz Ronowski, Professor Jerzy A. Ejsmont, Associate Professor Piotr Mioduszewski, Associate Professor Stanisław Taryma, PhD Eng. Ryszard Woźniak, PhD Eng. Wojciech Owczarzak, MSc Eng. Sławomir Sommer).
DESCRIPTION: Testing device for measuring the rolling resistance and noise of passenger car and truck tires with research capabilities unique in the world. Unlike typical running machines, "DRUM 2.0" enables precise measurement of rolling resistance in a wide temperature range (-15 C to + 30 C) because it is placed in a thermostatic chamber equipped with high-power cooling and heating devices. In addition, unique replicas of road surfaces, made on the basis of our own patent, are mounted on the drum. The device is used for research carried out as part of international and national projects as well as in research for industry and the military.
List of projects in which the device has been and is used: 5PRUE – HARMONOISE, 5PRUE – SILVIA, 6PRUE – IMAGINE, 7PRUE – PERSUADE, Norway Grants – LEO, PolNor – ELANORE, NCBiR – ROLRES, NCBiR – ROSOMAK, NCBiR - SEPOR.
List of principals for whom research was/are being conducted: HYUNDAI car factory (in Germany); LIGHTYEAR electric car factory, Holland; scientific institutes: VTI, Sweden; DRD, Danmark; BRRC, Belgium; SINTEF, Norway.
