In the ranking of technical universities, PG maintained a high 3rd place. Additionally, in this year's ranking of the best-run study programmes, four programmes offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology made it into the TOP 5.

The very successful past year has allowed our university to advance and place among the top five universities in Poland. This is a great achievement, as is maintaining the 3rd place in the category of technical universities.

"I am very pleased that in the year we celebrate the 120th anniversary of our university, we have advanced in the national ranking of higher education institutions. Improving our ranking position and being part of the elite group of the top five universities in the country confirms that the actions we are taking at the university are very effective. Our analyses show that in terms of the university's scientific potential and the number of citations, we are developing faster than other leading universities worldwide, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). We have the ambition to catch up with them. This motivates us to continue our hard work for the sake of science and development," says Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. "Once again, we are among the top technical universities, and the programs we offer are among the highest-rated in the country. This demonstrates that studying at Gdańsk University of Technology guarantees the highest quality of education at a modern and developing institution."

PG - a university with high scientific potential

The Perspektywy 2024 Academic University Ranking was created based on 31 indicators, grouped into seven categories of criteria.

The advancement and high position of Gdańsk University of Technology (PG) in the overall ranking result from progress in the top three key categories of criteria. Our university improved its position from last year in the categories of scientific effectiveness, internationalization, and scientific potential. In the latter, PG made the biggest leap, from 14th to 3rd place.

The ranking is based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific Effectiveness (weight 30%) – measured by factors such as the development of the academic staff and awarded academic degrees, the number of publications, citations, the efficiency of obtaining research funding, and the presence of researchers' publications in the top 10% most cited journals in the world.
  • Scientific Potential (weight 13%) – determined by the results of the university's scientific activity evaluation, the concentration of staff with the highest qualifications, the possession of doctoral and habilitation rights, and the education of PhD students in doctoral schools.
  • Internationalization (weight 15%) – measured by factors such as the number of international students, the number of students studying in foreign languages, participation in European universities, the number of international teachers, the number of student exchanges (incoming and outgoing), and the multicultural environment of the student body.
  • Graduates on the Job Market (weight 12%) – an indicator based on data from the nationwide study Economic Fates of Graduates (ELA).
  • Prestige (weight 12%) – consisting of the number of mentions of the university in a survey conducted among academic staff and the university's position in global academic rankings.
  • Teaching Conditions (weight 10%) – determined by students' access to highly qualified academic staff and the number of accreditations and certificates held by the university.
  • Innovation (weight 8%) – measured by the number of patents and protective rights obtained in Poland and abroad, as well as the university's research contribution to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

About the ranking of the "Perspektywy" foundation

"The Perspektywy Ranking of Higher Education Institutions" has been conducted since 1999 and is the most important and popular ranking of its kind in Poland. It takes into account almost all higher education institutions: both public and non-public (except for art schools), which have at least one right to confer a doctoral degree and have a minimum of 200 full-time students. The correctness and reliability of the preparation of the ranking is supervised by a competition chapter.

The Centre for Strategic Analysis of the PG, which reports to Prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz, PG Vice-Rector for Organisation and Development, is responsible for the coordination of activities related to the participation of the Gdańsk University of Technology in rankings and pro-quality national and international competitions, including the preparation of applications for rankings.

We would like to remind you that recruitment for studies at Gdansk University of Technology continues until 14 July.
