Head of the department

dr hab. inż. Tomasz Mikulski, prof. PG

Research interests

  • influence of corrosion on strength of structural members
  • a probabilistic approach to structural analysis (stability, dynamics, reliability, fatigue strength)
  • gas and liquid tanks, silos, composite shells
  • strength and stability of sailing gear
  • optimisation and sensitivity analysis of engineering structures
  • optical measurement methods – photogrammetry, digital image correlation
  • diagnostics of structures using ultrasound measurements
  • validation of rules and recommendations of classification societies

Laboratory capabilities

  • stand for accelerated corrosion of steel members (water tank 2.0 x 1.1 x 0.7 m dimensions) with utilities -  stanowisko do badań korozyjnych elementów konstrukcyjnych w warunkach przyspieszonej korozji morskiej (zbiornik o wymiarach 2.00 x 1.10 x 0.70 m) wraz z wyposażeniem pomiarowym – oxygen meter, conductometer, laboratory balances, etc.
  • photographic equipment and license for Agisoft Metashape software (photogrammetric measurements)
  • a tensometric system for strain measurement
  • an accelorometric system measuring 6DOF linear and rotational components
  • devices measuring the thickness of structural members using ultrasound waves ultradźwiękowych
