Graduation diplomas for completing post-graduate courses in off-shore wind energy at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology were awarded. Second edition of the course has been completed. Diplomas were awarded to 53 people.

Graduates of the first edition of the course also took part in the event, since the celebration was not held last year due to pandemics.

About the graduates

The graduates include representatives of energy production sector, developers, supply chain, certification units, energy providers, local government institutions, marine institutions and ministry staff. Some of them already work in off-shore sector abroad and decided to gain the education in their field at GUT.

– I would like to congratulate you all, in the first place. I am very happy that you chosen to study at our faculty and I hope that knowledge and skills that you obtained will be implemented in practice, for there is a lot to do - said the dean of the Faculty, professor Andrzej Seweryn.

A successful experiment

During the ceremony, the speeches were delivered by professor Marek Dzida, head of the post-graduate studies off-shore wind energy, Mariusz Witoński, chairman of Polish Society of Off-Shore Wind Energy, Karolina Lipińska, deputy head of the Department for the Development of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the Office of the Marshal of Pomeranian Region and professor Zbigniew Korczewski, co-ordinator of the Center for Off-Shore Wind Energy at GUT.

– I hope that graduating from this course will allow you to participate in a great professional adventure, connedted with the sector of off-shore wind energy that is opening in Poland - said Mariusz Witoński, chairman of the Polish Society of Off-Shore Wind Energy. - With calm and certainty we can now speak about the realization of the projects of off-shore wind farms which will be built in our country starting from 2024. I am very happy that the experiment of a kind, which was the first edition of the post-graduate course proved to be successful. It is attractive for the students and also meets the expectations of the job market and increasing demand for the qualified staff.

Fastest-growing technology of energy production

Our students receive and increase the knowledge on the off-shore wind energy as the fastest-growing technology of producing energy from renewable sources. They learn about the functioning of the off-shore wind energy market, they learn about all the aspects of preparing and realization of the projects of off0shore wind farms within the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone of the Baltic Sea.

Professional staff, potential leader of the area

In the nearest future, the market of off-shore wind energy in Poland will develop significantly. The project of the Polish Energy Policy up to 2040 includes the realization of off-shore wind farms of total power exceeding 10GW which will make Poland a potential leader in this area in Europe. The course aims at preparing professional staff for the needs of such a big market.

It is worth mentioning that investment in this branch of energy production is additionally justified by a well-developed Polish chain of supply for off-shore wind area realizing contracts for foreign companies, including the construction of world-class floating vessels for construction and servicing off-shore wind farms, specialized steel structures, electrical equipment or research and measurement services.

The ceremony of graduation took place on the Fahrenheit Courtyard of the Main Building of GUT.
