Gdańsk Tech is intensifying activities for the country's defense
In December 2021, the Center of Maritime Military Technologies of Gdańsk University of Technology and the Polish Armaments Group and PGZ Stocznia Wojenna concluded the so-called confidentiality agreements, which enabled the commencement of talks on the development of technologies for minimizing the physical fields of ships and unmanned underwater vehicles for the Polish Navy.
The meeting, which took place on Monday, 17 January, with the participation of representatives of PGZ S.A., PGZ SW Ltd. and several institutions of the Ministry of National Defense, was a consequence of the conclusion of the above-mentioned agreements and was aimed at intensifying the work of Gdańsk Tech scientists on projects in the field of national defense.
– We have been cooperating in this area with the Polish Navy and the Polish Armaments Group for many years, yet we have met with representatives of the army and industry separately so far. Today we managed to meet all in one place, at Gdańsk University of Technology - said prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech. – I hope it was not the last meeting in such a group. Our university is very much committed to actively supporting the development of the Polish defense industry – he added.
– Gdańsk University of Technology, and above all the people working here, have been for years involved in the development of marine technology, have repeatedly confirmed what a valuable base they are for building the potential of the Armed Forces. We are convinced that the experience gained so far, in the implementation of such projects as Ukwiał, Morświn, or Głuptak (Sea Anemone, Harbour Porpoise and Gannet), will result in the future in new innovative solutions increasing the combat capabilities of the Polish Navy, especially when they are the outcome of close cooperation between science and industry – said Capt Piotr Skóra, chief of the Head of Technology of the Maritime Armaments Agency.
– I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet in such a large and significant group. Bearing in mind the growing importance of unmanned sea vehicles used for both civil and military tasks, Polish Armaments Group and companies from the PGZ group and Gdańsk University of Technology are very interested in the development of existing technologies and the creation of new ones, based on the national research and development potential – said Przemysław Romaszkiewicz ,director of the Marine Projects Office of PGZ SA
The consortium of PGZ SA and PGZ SW is currently implementing a number of projects in the field of construction, renovation and modernization of ships of the Polish Navy and allied formations. In July 2021, a contract was signed for the delivery of three new type of surface ships for the Polish Navy under the "Miecznik" (Swordfish) program, a key program for the modernization of the maritime component of the Polish Armed Forces.
