Jubilee Picnic of KORAB Ship Technology Students' Club

Jubilee Picnic of KORAB Ship Technology Students' Club
On Saturday 1 June, Children's Day, the KORAB Ship Technology Students' Circle Jubilee Picnic was held. The event was of special significance as KSTO KORAB is celebrating its centenary in 2024. The Circle was founded in July 1924 by a group of Polish students at the Technical University in the Free City of Gdansk. The main aim of the founders was to provide themselves with the right conditions for studying in order to be able to develop the shipbuilding industry in Poland, which had regained access to the sea after 123 years.

Over the past hundred years KORAB has undergone many changes, both in the scope of its activities and in the conditions under which its members work. Today, students are able to carry out projects of unlimited variety, enjoying opportunities that previous generations could only dream of. Taking advantage of these conditions, KORAB students have over the years demonstrated extraordinary commitment and creativity, realising ambitious projects such as pedal boats, solar hydrofoils, submersibles and remote-controlled yachts.

At the jubilee picnic, which took place in the Old Town of Gdansk near the World War II Museum, the achievements of KORAB members could be admired. On the occasion of Children's Day, numerous attractions were also prepared for the youngest, relating to the theme of ships. For those who could reach the pedals, a cruise along the Motława on two pedal boats was prepared: Djord¿ and the flagship Rektor.

The event was a huge success, attracting many families with children, alumni of our Faculty and former KORAB members. Among the guests was also the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barbara Wikiel. The weather was fine throughout the day and the smiles on the faces of the many visitors testified to the excellent atmosphere of the picnic. Even at the end of the intensive day, there was no shortage of people willing to take a ride on the water bike, which further attracted the attention of passers-by.

We believe that the many weeks of commitment by our students and the work they put in resulted not only in a well-organised event, but also in increased public awareness of the existence and activities of organisations such as KORAB. We hope that this will encourage future generations of students to join our ranks and continue the over 100-year history of the KORAB Ship Technology Students' Circle.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the organisation of this unique picnic and all the guests for their participation and support.
