Vast Opportunities and a Chance for Growth: Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology will benefit from internships at a global leader in the design and construction of luxury sailing and motor catamarans. On Thursday, July 8th, the Faculty’s authorities signed an agreement with the renowned yacht company, Sunreef Yachts.

Collaboration has been established as part of the new Yacht Design and Construction programme at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology. Sunreef Yachts, a renowned company that designs and constructs yachts in Gdańsk, counts famous athletes and business leaders among its clients.

Top-Tier Production

This collaboration is significant because Sunreef Yachts uses cutting-edge technologies in yacht construction. It’s safe to say these are some of the highest-quality vessels, possibly the best in the world. For students interning at such a facility, this is an opportunity to access the latest knowledge and prepare for careers in companies operating at such a high technological and marketing level – said Professor Andrzej Seweryn, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology.

Focus on Practical Skills

The Yacht Design and Construction programme is structured as a practical degree, emphasizing numerous internships and placements. Additionally, many classes will be taught by industry professionals. Students will also have the chance to participate in summer internships.

The more hands-on experience, especially in esteemed companies, the better. This provides students with additional knowledge, which is something we value greatly, added Dean Seweryn.

The programme was developed in collaboration with POLBOAT – The Polish Chamber of the Yacht and Water Sports Industry, alongside well-known yacht companies with production facilities in Gdańsk (Aluship, Complexjacht, and Sunreef Yachts) or nearby locations (Techno Marine, Ostróda Yacht). The Polish Register of Shipping classification society has also joined the initiative.

A Thriving Industry

The yacht industry has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy in recent years. Notably, many prominent yacht companies in Poland operate their own design offices, creating and constructing vessels based on proprietary designs. This is one of the few industries in Poland where designers, technologists, and production engineers work on an attractive final product delivered to global markets.
