Repair and Installation of the Ukwiał Deep-Sea System on ORP Hańcza

Ukwiał
The Ukwiał deep-sea system will be repaired and installed on the ORP Hańcza minesweeper. On 7 July, the Naval Port Command in Świnoujście signed an agreement with Gdańsk University of Technology's Centre for Maritime Military Technology for the provision of this service.

The agreement is a continuation of the process initiated in 2021 by the Naval Support Inspectorate's Maritime Technology Directorate (STM IWsp SZ) to equip Project 207 vessels with Ukwiał and Głuptak systems. Similar work was previously carried out on the ORP Drużno minesweeper. Under the earlier contract, ORP Drużno was fitted with an Ukwiał vehicle transferred from a Project 206FM minehunter and an OPM Głuptak system supplied by the client. Additionally, preparations for equipping the twin vessel, ORP Hańcza, were also made during the same project, as reported by zbiam.pl.

"The overhaul of the Ukwiał deep-sea system and its installation on another Project 207 minesweeper is being carried out at the request of the Armaments Agency of the Naval Inspectorate of the General Command of the Armed Forces. I am confident that this initiative will significantly enhance the Navy’s capabilities, and by extension, the Armed Forces' potential in mine countermeasure operations in our maritime areas. We plan to undertake similar projects in the future during scheduled maintenance or modifications of minesweepers commissioned by the Logistics Authority," stated Captain Wojciech Sikorski, Head of STM IWsp SZ, in an interview with zbiam.pl.

The contract, valued at approximately PLN 1.7 million gross, was awarded following a public tender announced by the client in May 2022.
