Scientific Seminar at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology
Modern Research, Nature in Engineering, and Erasmus+ Exchange - these topics were discussed on 20 December during the scientific seminar titled “Nature Inspiration in Engineering” at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology (FMEST). The special guests of the event were representatives from Hochschule Bremen – City University of Applied Sciences.
During the seminar, scientists delivered thought-provoking presentations:
- Prof. Lars-Uve Schrader gave a lecture titled “Dolphins and Boats – Moving Efficiently Through Water,” discussing how natural solutions, such as the movement of dolphins, can inspire the design of more efficient watercraft.
- Prof. Albert Baars presented on the topic “Fundamentals and Applications of Superhydrophobic Surfaces for Hydrodynamic Drag Reduction.” His talk focused on the use of superhydrophobic surfaces to reduce hydrodynamic drag, with potential applications in maritime transport and other fields of engineering.
- Prof. Lars-Uve Schrader also delivered a presentation titled “Proposal for Cooperation within the Erasmus+ Programme with Hochschule Bremen – City University of Applied Science.” In this session, he outlined opportunities for collaboration under the Erasmus+ programme, including academic and research exchanges between institutions.
The seminar attracted significant interest from both the faculty’s academic staff and students, offering them insights into cutting-edge research and inspiring examples of how nature can be leveraged in engineering.
Additionally, the event served as an excellent opportunity to learn about international mobility opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme and to network with representatives from Hochschule Bremen.
