Dr Mariusz Deja awarded the title of Professor of Engineering and Technical Sciences.

Professor Mariusz Deja completed his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Construction at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Gdańsk University of Technology, in 1993. He earned his PhD in 2001 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014 in the field of Machine Construction and Operation. He has been working at Gdańsk University of Technology since 1993.
He served as Vice-Dean for Collaboration at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology (2021–2024) and Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (2016–2020). Until September 2024, he was the Head of the Department of Machine Technology and Production Automation (since 2019). He became the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology in September 2024.
"Receiving the title of Professor is an even greater motivation to take on new research topics related to modern technologies, in close cooperation with industry and both national and international research institutions. It also opens up more opportunities for building research teams involving young scientists, including students," emphasised Professor Mariusz Deja.
Achievements
Professor Deja is the author and co-author of over 150 scientific publications. He is also an expert in "Innovation and New Technologies" for the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (since 2006). In 2024, he became the Vice-President of the College of Deans of the Mechanical Engineering Faculties of Polish Technical Universities (2024–2028).
Professor Deja has extensive experience in undertaking international internships and scientific work at prestigious universities worldwide. Since 2022, he has been conducting research with scientists from Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden, and National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece, as part of the NEPTUN project under the Horizon Europe programme. In 2018, he was a visiting professor at Dezhou University in China.
Since 2001, Professor Deja has participated annually in scientific visits to the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. Earlier, in 1996, he undertook a research fellowship at Brunel University in London, UK. His collaboration with universities in Sweden also involved research at University College of Karlskrona in 1995 and 1997.
Research Interests
Professor Deja’s scientific interests focus on modern manufacturing techniques, abrasive finishing processes, additive technologies such as rapid prototyping (RP), rapid manufacturing (RM), and rapid tooling (RT), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and the creation of algorithms for computer-aided process planning (CAPP).
Outside of his academic pursuits, Professor Deja particularly enjoys listening to good music and attending live theatre performances, as he emphasised—without the interference of AI algorithms.
We sincerely congratulate Professor Deja and wish him continued success!
