Marcin Chodkiewicz

What opportunities do you believe studies at WIMiO provide?

Studying is a tool, and I believe it should be treated as such. A tool itself is of little use unless we know how to utilise it effectively. Therefore, everything depends on one's individual approach.

What did you learn during your studies?

Soft skills are just as important as technical skills. Relationships with fellow students and lecturers can open more doors than an engineering degree alone.

Your greatest achievement during your studies

Writing and defending my engineering thesis. It was a conceptual project for a power supply system of a turbogenerator on the Petrobaltic platform. I designed an alternative method of heating gas fuel using waste heat from the steam system.

What advice would you give to first-year students?

In your first year, you have no way of knowing how your career will unfold. Focus on building relationships with lecturers and fellow students, and invest your time in topics that truly interest you. Start working in your field as early as possible. And don't expect too much at this stage—expectations should come five years after graduation.

Your most significant professional achievement

As the first service engineer in Poland (together with a team of technicians), I carried out the overhaul of two Cummins QSK60 engines on board a Bourbon fleet vessel.

Notable projects:

  • Delivery of the main propulsion system and auxiliary generator for the C140 sailing superyacht built by Conrad Shipyard.
  • Replacement of generator sets on overhauled Navy vessels.
  • Supply of emergency generators for the Batory ferry programme.
  • Delivery of main engines, auxiliary propulsion systems, and generator sets for the dredger Ursa, commissioned by the Maritime Office.
