We’re proud to share that a research project by Associate Professor Beata Zima, from our Faculty has been awarded funding in the 15th edition of the LIDER program, organized by the National Centre for Research and Development.

The project is titled "Development of a Methodology and a Prototype Monitoring System for the Assessment of the Condition of Shell Structures." Its main objective is to create an innovative methodology and develop a prototype system for evaluating the technical condition of shell-type structures—an essential aspect for ensuring the safety and durability of engineering structures across various industries.

In particular, the project will focus on designing a novel system for measuring the thickness of corroded steel plates, which plays a key role in assessing the technical condition of ships and other structures exposed to aggressive, corrosive environments.

"In our previous project, 'Monitoring the Technical Condition of Metal Structures Subject to Corrosive Degradation'—funded by the National Science Centre—we focused on fundamental research and the development of non-destructive methods for monitoring corrosion damage. Now, it’s time to explore their practical application," says Associate Professor Beata Zima.

The project has been awarded funding of PLN 1,744,442.50.

The LIDER program is dedicated to early-career researchers—up to 7 years after earning their PhD. Its aim is to enhance their competencies in independently planning research activities and managing their own research teams, while carrying out projects with practical applications and implementation potential.

Congratulations and best of luck with the project!
