Dr. Łukasz Pawłowski from the Department of Biomaterials Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology completed a two-week research visit at National Taipei University of Technology, where he conducted studies on bone implants. The visit took place as part of the AURUM PLUS project under the Excellence Initiative – Research University program at Gdańsk Tech.

Dr. Łukasz Pawłowski from the Department of Biomaterials Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology worked with a team led by Prof. Hsu-Wei Fang at National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) on innovative composite coatings for bone implants. The research involved biological and antibacterial testing, evaluating the effects of different sterilization methods, and assessing the bioactivity and durability of the coatings.

“The opportunity to work in NTUT’s state-of-the-art laboratories and exchange knowledge with the local research team was extremely valuable. These experiments not only help us better understand the properties of the developed coatings but also allow us to evaluate their potential for future clinical applications,” emphasized Dr. Pawłowski.

The smart coatings are designed to release antibacterial agents only when inflammation occurs around the implant, while otherwise supporting bone regeneration.

International Conference

During his stay, Dr. Pawłowski also took part in the international Bio Asia–Taiwan conference and exhibition (24–27 July 2025), where he joined the forum “From Biomedical Innovation to Market Implementation” alongside industry representatives from the US and researchers from Indonesia.

National Taipei University of Technology is a public university in Taipei, Taiwan. It is a member of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Global Research & Industry Alliance (GLORIA). Established in 1912 as the School of Industrial Training, NTUT is one of Taiwan’s earliest higher education institutions.
