FMEST’s strategic support for the international biomaterials community

Dr. Marcin Wekwejt from the Department of Biomaterials Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical and Ship Technology has been appointed Program Coordinator of the Orthopaedic Biomaterials Special Interest Group. The Group operates within the Society for Biomaterials, a globally recognized scientific association that brings together experts in biomaterials engineering and the development of innovative technologies for orthopaedic surgery.

The Orthopaedic Biomaterials Special Interest Group focuses on bringing together the research community, identifying key challenges in the field of orthopaedic biomaterials, and fostering international scientific collaboration.

As Program Coordinator, Dr. Wekwejt will be responsible for planning and overseeing the group’s activities, setting strategic directions for its development, and supporting research projects and initiatives that promote knowledge exchange among scientists worldwide.

Dr. Marcin Wekwejt has long been involved in international research projects. His work focuses on advanced composites for bone tissue regeneration, including innovative bone cements with enhanced functionality, which have received multiple awards. His appointment to this prestigious role is both a recognition of his scientific standing and proof that research carried out at Gdańsk University of Technology contributes meaningfully to the global progress of biomaterials engineering.
