FMEST Students Take Top Honors in the 'Golden Lion Awards’
The Mechanik Student Club took first place in two categories: Student Club of the Year and Student Media of the Year (as the PGRacing Team). The team also earned second place in the Research Project of the Year category for their Formula Student car, the PGR-08 EVO. Since 2014, the PGRacing Team has been part of the Mechanik Club, designing and building a Formula Student car from scratch each year to compete in international competitions.
Meanwhile, the SimLE Student Club won first place in the Research Project of the Year category for its SimLE Science initiative and took second place in the Student Club of the Year category. SimLE Science carries out several notable projects, including:
- STORM – studying the presence and composition of chemical compounds in the stratosphere,
- STORMDUST – investigating toxins and microorganisms in the stratosphere; the experiment was carried on a special gondola attached to a stratospheric balloon,
- AMBER – an autonomous platform for astrobiology experiments.
Student Researchers Shine
In the Student Researcher of the Year category, Małgorzata Majda took top honors. A student of Mechanics and Machine Design and a member of SimLE since 2022, she works on the SimLE SimBa project, handling the design, simulations, workshop work, and documentation of a hybrid rocket engine. She is also the author of two papers presented at the International Astronautical Congress:
- "Research on the performance of the modified paraffin-wax based fuel grains in the use of Student Researched and Developed (SRAD) hybrid rocket motor" (IAC 2024, Milan)
- "Enhancement of the main sub-systems in Student Researched and Developed (SRAD) Hybrid Rocket Engine (HRE)" (IAC 2025, Sydney)
The Golden Lion Awards are an annual competition organized by the Gdańsk University of Technology Student Government, recognizing the most engaged students, student clubs, and initiatives that shape academic life.
