Spacecraft Structural Dynamics & Loads
Spacecraft Structural Dynamics & Loads is an introduction to the analysis of loads and space structure vibrations. Dynamic loads that a payload is subject to during the rocket launch will be described together with technical hints for the design of a satellite mechanics and as well as payload testing.

The lecture is open to the community of Gdańsk University of Technology and Hochschule Bremen. It is a part of the initiative ESA_Lab@Gdańsk, a cooperation between European Space Agency and Gdańsk University of Technology. The person responsible for the lecture is Adam Dąbrowski (adadabro@pg.edu.pl) from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology.

Virtual tour inside a ship thanks to an application
What would it be like if you could immerse yourself in virtual reality and see the hull of a ship from a previously unavailable perspective? MSc. Ewelina Ciba from the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology is working on an application that will make it possible.

Ewelina Ciba's project "Virtual Reality (VR) in designing the hull structure, application for Android and IOS systems" was awarded in the first edition of the Educational Innovation Competition at Gdańsk University of Technology.

Mechanical Vehicles and Military Techniques Section

Section of Mechanical Vehicles and Military Techniques in its present form has been operating since 2020 and is part of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, including the Institute of Mechanics and Machine Design. The head of the section is Associate Professor Grzegorz Ronowski. The beginnings of the Section date back to 1945. During 76 years of its research and teaching activities, the team underwent many reorganization.

In medicine, they are used to fill in the osseous defects, they are used to fix implants in endoprosthesis of hip or knee. They can also support the treatment of osteoporosis, be used in stabilization of fractures or as temporary implants to locally fight an infection. These are the application of bone cements, which Marcin Wekwejt, PhD, ME is interested in. An employee of the Institute of Machine Technology and Materials, Marcin Wekwejt defended with honours his PhD thesis on the modification of bone cements to obtain a long-lasting antibacterial protection.

Several years long research indicate that the developed bone cement can significantly eliminate problems associated with applying currently used cements in clinical practice. In future, after completing additional clinical research, it could be used as a bioactive replacement of conventional cements based on bioinert poly (metacrylane of methyl).

Professor Dariusz Mikielewicz, PhD, DSc, ME from the Institue of Energy at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, vice-rector for organization and development became a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He will represent Section IV of Technical Sciences.

– This is a kind of crowning of the scientific plans, appreciation by a body of the most renowned representatives of Polish science - says professor Mikielewicz – My tasks remain constant: active operation in the scientific field, raising a new generation of PhD's and professors, paying attention to the highest quality of the conducted scientific research, in order for them to be on the highest world level. These should be groundbreaking subjects that will contribute to worldwide changes, but this is yet another dream of mine.

Remote classes at Gdańsk University of Technology in the days 3-7 January 2022.
On 3-7 January 2022, all classes for students at Gdańsk University of Technology will be held remotely.

By the decision of the authorities of all Gdańsk Tech faculties and in agreement with the university authorities, classes in the first week of the New Year, i.e. in the days 3-7 January, will be conducted remotely. The change is introduced temporarily, due to the increasing number of infections and worsening epidemic situation in the country, as well as the threat of an even more dynamic development of the pandemic during the pre-holiday migrations.
