Eco-Friendly Unboxing: Sustainable Packaging in Action!

Unboxing project
Is it possible to transform the textile, clothing, footwear, and leather industries by introducing sustainable packaging? An international team is working on this as part of the UNBOXING project under the Erasmus+ programme.

The goal of the UNBOXING project – Innovating Sustainable Packaging Solutions for the Textile, Clothing, Footwear, and Leather (TCFL) industries – is to equip participants with skills related to sustainable packaging in the industry, provide trainers with tools for TCFL training, support TCFL stakeholders in adopting sustainable packaging practices, and motivate individuals from disadvantaged groups to take action towards environmentally friendly work.

  • "The project will help raise ecological awareness in the TCFL industry through sustainable packaging practices, which will reduce its environmental footprint and create more eco-friendly workplaces," says Dr. Marek Chodnicki, Vice-Dean for Cooperation at the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, and the project coordinator.

As part of the project, an e-learning platform focused on sustainable packaging in the TCFL industry will be developed, featuring dynamic modules and interactive exercises. Additionally, both in-person and virtual workshops will be organized to promote practical skills and knowledge about the industry.

The project was launched under the Erasmus+ programme. The following organizations are involved:

  • Gdańsk University of Technology – Poland
  • Kainotomia & SIA EE – Greece
  • Package Testing & Research Ltd – Finland
  • Regional Chamber of Commerce of Pomerania – Poland
  • Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services, and Navigation of Valencia – Spain
  • Bettina – Knitwear Products S.A. – Greece
  • Association for the Promotion of Sustainable Initiatives and Skills – Spain

In addition to academic teachers, the project will involve students, VET trainers, and TCFL industry stakeholders, including socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.

The first project meeting (kick-off meeting) will take place at our university on October 22.

The project will last 30 months, from October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2027.
