FMEST in the Media: Will Engineering Studies Encourage Work in the Maritime Industry?
The episode was broadcast before the summer holidays, but the topic remains highly relevant. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology offers a wide range of studies related to the maritime industry, including shipbuilding, marine and offshore structures, and yacht design and construction. Additionally, in January 2024, postgraduate studies in Shipbuilding were launched. The courses are taught by highly qualified staff, many of whom have strong ties to the industry.
"We have a significant representation of people connected to the shipbuilding industry, many of whom have worked with the shipbuilding sector or in offshore fields. We also specialise in mechanical engineering – we offer several programmes in this area. In response to demand, we launched the Shipbuilding and Machine Construction programme in October last year," said Jacek Kropiwnicki.
Work for the Future
"There is a high demand for jobs in shipbuilding. We are on the brink of a technological revolution, linked to the decarbonisation of shipping. Around 100,000 vessels are currently operating worldwide, and these will either need to be replaced or modernised to meet CO2 reduction targets. For this, we need experts. This is a very attractive field with good salaries – the challenge lies in encouraging young people to choose engineering studies," said Ireneusz Karaśkiewicz.
