An Overview on Sliding Planet Gear Bearings for Wind Turbine Applications

Using sliding planet gear bearings in highly-loaded wind turbine gearbox has become very common in the last decade. This talk introduces a general understanding of the challenges and special design features for this application due to the very specific load situation. Furthermore, it shows the continuous progress in modelling strategies and experimental identification that contributes to recent research results and the optimization of efficiency for future applications.

Dr Thomas Hagemann is a senior research fellow at the Institute of Tribology and Energy Conversion Machinery at Clausthal University of Technology in Germany and holds a PhD and habilitation degree from this University. His research is focussed on journal and thrust bearings in high-speed and high-load applications. Thomas has more than 20 years of experience in this field and has been involved in numerous research and application projects that include the interaction of the bearings with the structure of the machine.
