Visit of the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence, Marcin Ociepa at Gdańsk Tech
The Secretary was accompanied by col. Jacek Najs (MoD), Rafał Sobolewski (NCBiR) and Magdalena Sroka, MP. The visitors were hosted by the authorities of the university: professor Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of Gdańsk Tech, and professor Janusz Nieznański, Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Innovation. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology was represented by its dean, professor Andrzej Seweryn, while the Center of Marine Military Technologies was represented by its chairman, Andrzej Ogonowski and Paweł Zariczny.
In the first stage of the visit the MoD Secretary and other members of his detail discussed the current research projects of the GUT scientists dealing with the defence of the country and implementation of modern military technologies developed and improved by the Center's staff.
Next, our guests visited the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology where they saw the model testing tank constructed in 2015. This facility is used daily to test the nautical properties of floating vessels, but today it served as a demo stage for UAV Głuptak constructed at Gdańsk Tech and intended for activities associated with identification and disposal of sea mines.
– This facility and research projects of Gdańsk Tech scientists that are being conducted here, especially in the area of military technologies are impressive and necessary - said Marcin Ociepa - Our ministry has been supporting, and intends to continue this support in the future, all and any initiatives translating into the increased efficiency of Polish science and implementation of modern military technologies.
Gdańsk Tech Rector, professor Krzysztof Wilde emphasized that the development of military technologies is very important for the university.
- Our mission is to serve Polish science. Our engagement into military technologies is very strong because we see in them a chance for further, dynamic development of Gdańsk University of Technology. We have significant achievements, but I am convinced that the greatest ones are yet to come. - he said.
