A renowned specialist, man open to the world. Leszek Cantek, PhD, ME passed away
We regretfully inform that on 30 July 2021, Leszek Cantek, PhD, ME passed away at 94 years of age. He was a graduate and academic teacher of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Gdańsk University of Technology. In the period of 1975-1981 he was a vice-dean for student matters of the Faculty of Machine Construction and from 1988 to 1992 he was the head of the Department of Combustion Engines and Compressors.

Leszek Cantek was a great academic teacher and mentor, renowned mainly for his patience and kindness for students - he promoted over 200 graduates. He developed a number of textbooks on piston compressors and piston thermal machines which are often used up to date. Among his works there is a unique Atlas containing materials for lectures, practicals and design of positive-displacement compressors.

Leszek Cantek was also a renowned specialist on design and operation of positive-displacement compressors. He lead and completed many studies on the development of air compressors, compressor compounds, optimization of cleaning the compressed air from water and oil. An important section of his professional activity consisted in expertise on the causes of failures of complressor, operation of the compressed air system and assessment of the design of prototypes of specialized compressors. He actively coperated with Wytwórnia Aparatów Natryskowych in Gdynia and R&D unit of Stalowa Wola steel mill. He created numerous publications, conference materials and patents.

We lost a good friend, a man who was open to the world, new things and other people's opinions. We supported his attempts of understanding and accepting suffering and sadness after a tragic death of his son. We would like to give our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the departed.
