RC vehicles on a parcour. Students in training before the faculty-wide competition

vehicles, news
Four teams of three persons and remote-controlled vehicles. Mechatronics students are training before the competition that will soon take place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology.

Students of mechatronics (1st degree course, 6th term) have a whole term to design and build an RC vehicle that will go through an obstacle course and parks in a garage. There are no requirements as for the looks, but on a parcour the car has to complete the following tasks: start and go to the loading area, load a block of aluminium measuring 50x50x50 mm, go through a ramp, make a turn of the internal radius of 200 mm, transport the load over a 2 m long straight with the speed of at least 0.5 m/s, unload the block at the indicated area with a ramp, open the garage using a special button and, finally, park in the garage going backwards.

One of the competing cars is "Sklejak" (Plywood) which was 3D printed but also has wooden parts.

High committment of the students

"RC vehicles - team project at mechatronics course" is supervised and directed by professor Piotr Mioduszewski, PhD, DSc, ME.

– I conducted this project within the "team project" subject and it has always enjoyed very high interest of the student and it has always been completed with passion and high committment, often exceeding the specified requirements. Students had access to machines and services allowing, for example, laser cutting of steel sheet or 3D printing. With these technologies the obstacle course where the competition will be held has been equipped with nearly professional obstacles in the last edition of the contest says Piotr Mioduszewski.

Within the project the students, apart from building the RC car competing in the event, have to conduct the necessary traction calculations for the vehicle, create its computer model (including visualization) and prepare the design documentation. The Committee will select the winning projects and winners of the first three places will receive prizes.

We will keep you informed about the competition, meanwhile you can watch a video from the practice runs.
