Izabela Satrjan, a student of ocean technology at FMEST selected this study course to join it with her passion for sailing. She has been practicing this sport since she was 8 years old. This year she became one of the laureates of the Golden Lion Cubs plebiscite. She won the Sports category and talked to us about her achievements and plans for the future.

Izabela Satrjan has been sailing since she was a child, but she started treating this sport in a more serious way when she was 16. Since 2019 she is a member of the national team in olympic class formula kite - the fastest sailing class in the world. The board features a hydrowing which allows it to hover, as if levitating. This is the sport that gives me the most joy - says the student.

However, this is not the only discipline she trains. Izabela Satrjan also practices mountain biking and recently she spent a lot of time on a rowing ergometer. She used to practice running and basketball.

Achievements

This FMEST student can boast with big achievements in sports. The most important of these is 6th place in Formula Kite World Championship 2021. Apart from that, last year her team won the Academic Championship of Poland in sailing, before that she had placed 7th in Amateur Championship of Poland in mountainbiking and she had been 6th in Amateur Championship of Poland in rowing ergometer. In the meantime she was the Italian Champion in Formula Kite. This year she improved her performance in ergometer. She also placed secong in Kite Poland Cup.

Currently she is working on winning the qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Studies vs sport

Izabela Satrjan decided to study ocean technology to combine science with her great passion - sailing. The subject of my ME thesis is connected with the class i participate in currently. I can develop myself in compliance with my interests and I believe this is the best way - choose something you are interested in - she says.

Is it easy to combine sport and intense trainng? The most important things include self-discipline and good planning. I study at a stationary course, I do not have a personalized schedule. I think FMEST is really friendly for sportsmen and sportswomen. I often experienced understanding and willingness to help. My motivation are daily goals which I almost always write down. Sometimes these are petty things, such as replying to an e-mail. I deal with the most important matters first, this gives me calm. Sleep and diet are the basis of it all. Without them the organism fails to find energy to cope with another training or day of studying - says te winner of the Golden Lion Cubs award.

She emphasizes that sport helps her in studying and facing the daily hardships. Professional sports builds resistance to stress, because as athletes we deal with it on daily basis and we learn how to fight it. Sports also helps in shaping your character, in being consistent, punctual and organized in daily life. Recreational sport is also important. It is the time to organize your thoughts, look at things from a distance and, most of all, provides you with positive enegrgy - adds Izabela Satrjan.
