Students competed using robots they had made
On Wednesday, 26 June 2024, technology and innovation enthusiasts had the opportunity to participate in a unique event - the 'Robot Challenge' Remote Controlled Robot Competition. The event took place on the green square in front of Building 40 of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, attracting robotics enthusiasts and aficionados.

"Robot Challenge" was a dynamic competition that pitted teams of constructors and their extraordinary remote-controlled robots against each other. It was an excellent opportunity to see ingenious constructions in action, the fruit of the creativity and knowledge of the students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology.

More than 700,000 in funding for scientist of our Faculty

Researchers from the Gdansk University of Technology obtained almost PLN 11 million in funding for their projects as part of the OPUS 25, PRELUDIUM 22 and SONATA BIS 13 competitions organised by the National Science Centre. In this edition, 8 projects received financial support. One of them is a project implemented by a scientist from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding.

Project "Investigation of Phenomena Associated with Friction in Sliding Pairs Lubricated with Water Containing Mineral Particles"

The project is led by Professor Wojciech Litwin and has received funding amounting to PLN 702,400.

During the 17th International Invention and Innovation Show INTARG, the scientific club "Materials in Medicine" received a gold medal for their injectable double-binding bone cement. The invention is intended as a substitute for bone tissue and is primarily aimed at the orthopedic industry.

About the fair

INTARG, or the International Invention and Innovation Show, is an event where the latest technological achievements, innovative projects, and inventions from various fields are presented on both a national and international scale. The goal of the fair is to promote innovation, establish business connections, and support the transfer of technology between science and industry. The fair includes annual activities such as exhibitions, competitions, conferences, seminars, and B2B meetings.

On Saturday 1 June, Children's Day, the KORAB Ship Technology Students' Circle Jubilee Picnic was held. The event was of special significance as KSTO KORAB is celebrating its centenary in 2024. The Circle was founded in July 1924 by a group of Polish students at the Technical University in the Free City of Gdansk. The main aim of the founders was to provide themselves with the right conditions for studying in order to be able to develop the shipbuilding industry in Poland, which had regained access to the sea after 123 years.

Over the past hundred years KORAB has undergone many changes, both in the scope of its activities and in the conditions under which its members work. Today, students are able to carry out projects of unlimited variety, enjoying opportunities that previous generations could only dream of. Taking advantage of these conditions, KORAB students have over the years demonstrated extraordinary commitment and creativity, realising ambitious projects such as pedal boats, solar hydrofoils, submersibles and remote-controlled yachts.

Careers in the open air - meetings with industry at FMEST

The series of outdoor meetings "Career in the Open Air," organized by the Career Office of Gdańsk University of Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, attracted hundreds of interested students. As part of this event, which took place over several weeks, students had the opportunity to meet representatives from five different companies: Eaton, Expom, NFM Poland, Mondi, and BaseGroup.

Each of the meetings, despite a common formula, had its own unique course. This was due to the different visions of the individual companies, which tried to interest the participants in various ways. The aim of these events was to present students and graduates of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology with career prospects in the industry and the opportunities that await them.

Success for KSTO Korab at the 2024 International Water Bike Regatta

Between 16 and 18 May, the KSTO Korab Scientific Circle team enjoyed their biggest success in seven years at the prestigious International Waterbike Regatta, claiming 2nd place on the podium overall.

Studying is not only about learning, but also about developing your passions and interests. KSTO Korab students combine their studies with their passion for water sports - building watercraft and then competing with them in international regattas. The team of 15 students worked hard for four days, right from their arrival on Wednesday, to ensure that all the watercraft were in maximum working order. This was the culmination of months of intensive preparation and the efforts of the entire team.
