Debut of students' new rocket in a prestigious contest. SimBa will soon fly to Portugal
NASA, Space X, Gdańsk University of Technology… what is the connection among these institutions? Rockets! Students associated in SimLE science club have been engaged in the realization of a rocket project SimBA and are building their rockets. Obviously, they are a bit smaller than the rockets built by experienced from the other side of the Ocean, but that does not stop them from participating in European Rocketry Challenge, during which R5 rocket will debut.

EuRoC – European Rocketry Challenge is a rocket competition held between 11-17 October in Portugal. 400 students from all over Europe will attend. Amongt them there will be a team representing Gdańsk Universty of Technology, competing in 3km category. The preparations are in their final stage.

Welcome Meeting for the newcomers

Welcome Meeting for the newcomers
Over 470 students from 42 countries - from Singapore, China, Russia, EU countries, the USA and Brazil – have been accepted this year to study at Gdańsk University of Technology. On Thursday, September 30th at 10:00 a.m. there will be an online Welcome Meeting for all newly admitted international students.

Every year, the International Relations Office organizes an information meeting for foreigners, starting their studies at the Gdańsk University of Technology. The event is not only an opportunity to welcome new foreign students at the University, but also to provide important information related to the beginning of the academic year, organization of studies and life in Gdańsk.

PGRacing Team is getting ready for next competition. The students will race in Italy

Nearly two months ago we kept our fingers crossed for the students of PGRacing Team during their competition in Formula Student event in Czechia. Now it is time for Italy - in October the team will take their racing car to Varano de' Melegari, where they will compete against teams from all over the world on Autodromo Riccardo Paletti race track. 

This time the form of the competition is a bit different, since it begins online on September 27 when static events will be held until October 1. Dynamic events will take place in Italy from 10 to 13 October 2021.

Four teams of three persons and remote-controlled vehicles. Mechatronics students are training before the competition that will soon take place at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology. 

Students of mechatronics (1st degree course, 6th term) have a whole term to design and build an RC vehicle that will go through an obstacle course and parks in a garage.

International Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference "(In)equality. Faces of Modern Europe"
Are you interested in the world and its analysis? Are you touched by problems and inequalities you see? Join the discussion and listen for free to lectures of the researches from all over the world. Take part in the second International Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference "(In)equality. Faces of Modern Europe" which will be held in Wrocław.  

Date and venue: 19-21 November 2021. The conference will last three days and will have a hybrid form. You can participate in the conference in a stationary mode (first two days, i.e. 19 and 20 November) in CSNE in Wrocław or online (with the aid of ZOOM platform). 

Conference subjects are very comprehensive, so you can choose a subject that suits your interests best. This year the subjects have been divided into two thematic blocks:

ISO standards and management through quality (TQM) - recruitment is now open!

Recruitment for two-term post-graduate studies "ISO standards and management through quality" is now open. This year's we will hold the 30th edition of the course. First meeting is scheduled for the weekend of 08-09.10.2021.  

Graduates of the post-graduate studies "ISO standards and management through quality (TQM)" will gain necessary knowledge on the modern methods of managing organizations. They also gain skills allowing them to perform the duties of a manager's representative for management systems on the basis of the obtained competences: quality manager and/or internal quality management auditor, environmental management, health and safety management confirmed by appropriate certificates.

 DCT Gdańsk, a company employing Karol Moszyk who is a PhD student at the Faculty, awarded a TSL award
DCT Gdańsk where Karol Moszyk, a PhD student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, works as a business transformation manager received a prestigious award TSL Awards 2020 given by the Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper. The company won the award in Innovation in Logistics category for launching automated gates at lorry and rail terminals. 

Karol Moszyk is currently working on an implementation PhD thesis on the analysis of the cargo handling strategy of the deep-water container terminal within the aspect of process efficiency. One of its elements consists in the automation of cargo handling process at lorry gate and railroad sidetrack.

Students are sending a balloon into... the stratosphere to study "mysterious" bacteria
The stratospheric experiment by the SimLE research club, operating at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology and by the Gdańsk Tech Biotechnology Students Club, is getting closer to the final in the REXUS/BEXUS program (Rocket/Balloon Experiments for University Students). Recently, the students have successfully undergone the EAR (Experiment Acceptance Review), and in less than a week the experiment will be sent to Sweden.

The SimLE Research Club and the Gdańsk Tech Biotechnology Students Club jointly carry out the Stardust project, i.e. the missions of stratospheric balloons. The aim of this latest project is to study microorganisms in the stratosphere that have not been described yet. These microorganisms can be used in industry in the future, e.g. in pharmaceuticals.

Cosmetics based on carrot pomace extracts. This is how biomass can be used
Natural cosmetics based on carrot pomace extracts or bioplastics from potato leftovers - such can be the use of biomass, so far considered useless waste. This is the result of the research carried out under the project BioBIGG: Bioeconomics in the South Baltic Area: Innovations based on the use of biomass and the development of green areas.

Gdańsk University of Technology was one of the participants in the project. The project manager on behalf of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology was prof. Dariusz Mikielewicz from the Institute of Energy, vice-rector for development and organization.

PGRacing Team students talked about their race car on TV. See video
Students from PGRacing Team appeared live on TV this Monday in Dzień Dobry TVN morning show. They presented the capabilites of the race car they built on their own and talked about the international competition Formula Student. 

During their performance, the students showed how to get off the car - not a simple feat as it turns out.
