Starting from 12. November lectures and practical classes taught remotely, laboratory classes, projects and seminars in stationary mode
In conjunction with the increasing number of coronavirus infections in Poland, the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology decided that, starting from 12. November 2021 lectures and practical classes conducted within stationary courses will be realized remotely through eNauczanie platform, with the exception of the courses where the lecture and practical groups do not exceed 20 persons - in such cases the classes will be conducted in a stationary mode. All the other classes, that is laboratory classes, projects and seminars will be conducted without any changes, in a stationary mode at the premises of the university.

No disease outbreaks were reported at FMEST - the actions have a preventive character related to the growing number of infections. On November 5, 15904 new cases were reported in Poland, 894 new cases were reported in Pomeranian region. The FMEST dean said that stationary mode of conducting all classes will be resumed when the number of cases will drop.

He loves sailing, so... he printed his own canoe. Project by Eng. Maciej Karnowski

He loves sailing, so... he printed his own canoe. Project by Eng. Maciej Karnowski
He's a sailing fan, but didn't have room to store a large boat, so he decided to go for something smaller. As 3D printing is also his passion, so he printed ... a canoe in which he traverses the Motława River and the Martwa Wisła. Maciej Karnowski, a graduate of ocean engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology has just defended his engineering thesis entitled "The use of 3D printing in kayak prototyping".

The kayak was printed at home, it is 2.3 m long and 80 cm wide. Maciej Karnowski designed the boat in such a way that it could be transported by a small car.

 – I printed the canoe at home and it took me a total of 400 hours – the printer worked about six hours a day. It is much smaller than a standard boat of this type, which usually measures about three meters - noted the graduate.

Machines in space and traffic on space routes in TVP3 Gdańsk
On November 3, 1957, 64 years ago, Soviet satellite Sputnik 2 with the dog called Łajka on board was launched into space. Today we know that experiments involving animals are immoral. After all, the technology has developed significantly, as can be seen at Gdańsk University of Technology.

Here, also at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, scientists and students work on innovative research and devices. Study courses associated with space are being launched. These were the subjects of the speech delivered by Marek Chodnicki, PhD, ME in TVP3 Gdańsk show "Good morning, Gdańsk speaking".

Professor Zbigniew Korczewski in TOK FM about wind farms: "I see more advantages than disadvantages"

Professor Zbigniew Korczewski in TOK FM about wind farms: "I see more advantages than disadvantages"
Advantges and disadvantages of the off-shore wind turbines and challenges associated with this issue were discussed by professor Zbigniew Korczewski in an interview in TOK FM science show "Practical Science", hosted by Karolina Głowacka.

Looking at the wind farms, I see significantly more advantages than disadvantages. First of all, bearing in mind the major objective associated with them – namely reaching climate and environmental neutrality as soon as possible in order to decrease the greenhouse effect anc CO2 emission. Building off-shore wind farms increases the chances of reaching the target – said professor Zbigniew Korczewski, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, coordinator of the GUT Center for Off-shore Wind Energy, in TOK FM science show.
