The project led by Associate Professor Beata Zima, has received funding under the 15th edition of the LIDER program

We’re proud to share that a research project by Associate Professor Beata Zima, from our Faculty has been awarded funding in the 15th edition of the LIDER program, organized by the National Centre for Research and Development.

The project is titled "Development of a Methodology and a Prototype Monitoring System for the Assessment of the Condition of Shell Structures." Its main objective is to create an innovative methodology and develop a prototype system for evaluating the technical condition of shell-type structures—an essential aspect for ensuring the safety and durability of engineering structures across various industries.

Engineer Paweł Jacheć graduated in Ocean Engineering from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, specialising in Management and Marketing in the Maritime Economy. Today, he serves as the Director of Development and Sales at ITMORE, a company specialising in business process mapping and optimisation.

What opportunities, in your opinion, does studying at FMEST provide?

Studying at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology offers valuable professional development opportunities. The Careers and Alumni Office, together with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology, warmly invites you to TargOiOwisko – the Faculty Careers Fair, which will take place on 13th March 2025, from 10:00 to 14:00 at WIMiO (ground floor and first floor, building no. 30).

This is the ninth edition of the event, during which Gdańsk University of Technology opens its doors to students, alumni, and high school graduates interested in pursuing a career in the maritime industry.

Best Master's Thesis in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture Competition

The Polish Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers KORAB, under the patronage of RINA – The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, announces a competition for the best master's thesis defended at FMEST in the field of ocean engineering and naval architecture: "The RINA-KORAB Student Naval Architect Award 2025"

Both thesis supervisors and authors of master's theses defended in the calendar year 2024 are eligible to submit entries for the competition. Theses submitted by the end of 2024 but defended by the end of January 2025 are also eligible. However, such theses will not be eligible for submission in the next edition of the competition.

Agnieszka Kościowska
Agnieszka Kościowska completed her degree in Ocean Engineering at our faculty and is now the Director of Conoship International Poland sp. z o.o., the Polish branch of the Dutch company specialising in ship design and engineering.

Career Path

I began my professional journey at Gdańsk Shiprepair Yard, undertaking an internship in the Production Preparation Department. In the following years, I worked as a designer in various design offices, both within and outside the shipyard. Later, I established my own business, which led to a collaboration with Conoship International, based in Groningen, the Netherlands. This partnership resulted in the establishment of the Polish branch, now operating as Conoship International Poland sp. z o.o.

Career after FMEST: Marcin Chodkiewicz [GRADUATE PROFILE]

Marcin Chodkiewicz
Marcin Chodkiewicz graduated in Transport from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology, specialising in Waterborne Transport Means. He currently holds the position of Marine Sales Manager at Cummins Ltd. Sp. z o.o. In the latest article in the "Career after FMEST" series, he shares his professional experiences.  

What opportunities do you believe studies at WIMiO provide?

Studying is a tool, and I believe it should be treated as such. A tool itself is of little use unless we know how to utilise it effectively. Therefore, everything depends on one's individual approach.

What did you learn during your studies?

Soft skills are just as important as technical skills. Relationships with fellow students and lecturers can open more doors than an engineering degree alone.
