Important information for the new international students

Important information for the new international students
Are you an international student starting your studies at Gdańsk University of Technology in October? Be sure you know about the events we have prepared for you and your colleagues who are also starting their student adventure in Gdańsk.

At the beginning of each new academic year, Gdańsk Tech International Relations Office invites newly admitted international students (Polish and English-speaking) to participate in two important events: the Registration Week and the Welcome Meeting. This year all the newcomers and students from other Gdańsk universities will additionally be able to take part in a free guided tour of Gdańsk and a parade inaugurating the beginning of the academic year.

A new method of corrosion monitoring

A new method of corrosion monitoring
Metal elements of ocean engineering structures are exposed to corrosion damage caused by contact with salt water. Corrosion can cover the entire surface of the tested structure, but it can also take the form of point damage, i.e. pits. Beata Zima, PhD, Eng. from the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology is working on creating such a method of monitoring the progress of destruction that allows to assess global damage and to detect potential cracks and pitting.

The project "Monitoring the technical condition of metal structures subjected to corrosion degradation" received PLN 1,063,460 in funding in the SONATA competition organized by the National Science Center.

A new specialization in offshore studies at GdańskTech in cooperation with PGE

A new specialization in offshore studies at GdańskTech in cooperation with PGE
Design and construction of marine power systems is a new specialization in the field of ocean engineering at Gdańsk University of Technology. Its main partner is PGE, which is implementing the project to build the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm, the largest offshore wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.

– One of the pillars of cooperation between business and science is setting new directions in education. In order to build the domestic offshore wind energy market, it is necessary to educate future experts. That is why we have started cooperation with Polish scientists and lecturers who will manage a new specialization at master's studies at Gdańsk University of Technology – said Wojciech Dąbrowski, president of the management board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

"Design-for-safety"- safe sea transport

Photo: Jakub Montewka, PhD, DSc, Eng. / Gdańsk Tech
"Design-for-safety - development of a rational method of designing a ship in order to increase the safety of navigation, with particular emphasis on stability and maneuverability" - is a new project on which scientists from the Institute of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology at Gdańsk University of Technology will work. For the implementation of the project managed by Jakub Montewka, PhD, DSc, Eng. scientists received PLN 498,800 as part of the Aurum program.

Sea transport is particularly vulnerable due to the complex, often unpredictable environment in which it operates. Threats may arise from both deliberate and accidental actions (hydrometeorological, mechanical conditions, etc.). Providing navigational safety, including collision avoidance, is one of the main and most important issues related to the issue of fleet development.
