Is your study course associated with transport? Participate in a competition and win €5,000!
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology invites our students to a meeting with George Smyrnakis, secretary general of WEGEMT (Marine University Association), who will present the methods and conditions of participating in the next edition of TRA VISIONS, a prestigious and most important European competition for students, PhD students and graduates of the study courses associated with widely understood transport. 

The meeting will be held on 24 May 2023 at 12 (noon) in prof. Hilary Sipowicz auditorium (1st floor, building no.30). Spotkanie odbędzie się 24 maja 2023 r. o godzinie 12:00 w Audytorium im. prof. Hilarego Sipowicza (I piętro, budynek nr 30).

TRA VISIONS 2024 Young Researcher Competition is an initiative financed with EU funds, directed at BSc, MSC, PhD students whose study courses are associated with transport. The competition is open for all the students and graduates of EU-located universities.

 Beata Zima, PhD, MSc wins the Scientific Award of the Polish Academy of Science's Mechanics Committee
Beata Zima, PhD, MSc representing the Institute of Ship and Ocean Technology received the  pofessor Michał Życzkowski Scientific Award of the Polish Academy of Science's Mechanics Committee  for 2022 (1st category award). Three of her own and ten co-authored publications received the recognition. 

The cycle of the awarded publications is about non-destructive methods of identification, location and assessment of various types of damage in engineering structures. 

–  The Committee's award is a great honour and satisfaction for me. It reassures me that my scientific work moves in the right direction, which motvates me to put in even more effort - says Beata Zima, PhD, ME.

Tribology Laboratory

TriboLab tribology laboratory is one of the group of strategic laboratories of the Gdańsk University of Technology (GdanskTech) - CoreLab. It is a synthesis of the experience of teams from the merged faculties: the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where parallel research groups in the field of tribology and bearing engineering operated and co-operated for many years.

Students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology are developing the design of Mars rover – Positivity Mars Rover. Now, thanks to a new robotic arm equipped with a bucket, the rover will be able to collect loose material for tests.    

Mars rover presented by the students is the continuation of last year’s work. We already wrote about it on our website. This version has some new components and a brand new control application.

Summary of diploma theses and possible cooperation with Base Group
Summary of diploma theses written by the graduates of FMEST and discussion on further cooperation. Last Friday the Faculty’s authorities held a meeting with Base Group. 

In the beginning of this year, two students: Michał Bilicki and Maciej Biedrzycki defended their diploma theses at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology. During the meeting at Base Group, the graduates summarised their projects.

Michał Bilicki defended the thesis entitled „Analysis of the variants of technological process in the aspects of time and manufacturing costs for mechanical components”, supervised by professor Mariusz Deja. The thesis was written on the basis of an engineering problem encountered by Base Group.

Dear Student, how about designing the interior of Panorama yacht?
It completed a great deal of sea voyages and now it is going through a major overhaul which you can contribute to! We would like to invite the students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Ship Technology to participate in the competition for arranging the interior of the “Panorama” sea yacht. The designs should be submitted by 16 June 2023.  

Gdansk Tech rector, professor Krzysztof Wilde took the patronage over the competition.  

The sponsor  of the competition - ORVALDI Power Protection Sp. z o.o – funded the prize pool of PLN 10000.
